Sean Paul as captured by New York Photographer Johnathon Mannion

Kingston, Jamaica; Multi-platinum, Grammy Award winning, super-star Sean Paul has signed with Island Records.
Falling under the internationally acclaimed umbrella brand, Universal Music Group; Island Records has been paralleled with Reggae and the Caribbean, being associated with many successes in the industry including that of the famed Bob Marley.
“What Sean has done for Jamaica and helping reggae music cross over makes him nothing short of a cultural icon” President of Island Records U.K. Darcus Beese, told Billboard.
After steamrolling the deal with Island Records, the artiste decided to make it official due to a good run so far. Sean Paul has expressed that the deal has given him the space and creative freedom he has grown accustomed to, having been producing with his own label.
Having maintained a chart topping peak on the Billboard Hot 100 for weeks with Sia collaboration Cheap Thrills, Sean Paul now sits at #2 and is still the featured airplay gainer on the music chart.
The artiste has been making numerous strides since signing with Island Records, a deal which Beese describes to be “absolutely a natural fit”. Sean Paul has been putting in a lot of work since making the chart topping collaboration with Sia, saying he feels anew, he has fans looking forward to a new single in November and the official release of his latest collaboration LUV with controversial Hip Hop sensation Tory Lanez.

Also, Sean Paul’s Trumpets has been going viral with fans worldwide posting their choreography videos online to be liked and shared by even more Sean Paul fans.
Hinting to even more productions with the likes of famous producer David Guetta and Shakira, as well as Jamaican dancehall artiste Chi Ching Ching with whom he did Crick Neck which is already out, Sean Paul is feeling refreshed and ready for even more #1 hits. The Jamaica-based artiste told Billboard that he is “loving the resurgence of dancehall. Dancehall has now become mainstream international music, rather than underground where it was for years. He also added “Island is an iconic label” It makes me feel new all over again.
Now I have got a deal with Island where they recognize that ‘he knows what his fan base needs and knows exactly what he wants to put out. We don't need to help him in that direction. We need to facilitate people knowing about his work.’ That's just a great thing for me.”

Sean Paul looks to take the stage at Bestival 2016, to be staged at the Robin Hill Country Park where Sean Paul can be seen on the final night September 11 as well as the already sold out Electric Ballroom in Camden, London on September 13.

Sean Paul is encouraging fans to keep a watch out for show and tour dates on his website at allseanpaul.com and look out for a new single in November as well as an album in 2017.

Reggae Rocks Jamaica House in Rio

(left to right) Robert Russel and Joseph Bogdanovich of DownSound Entertainment, Digicel Sponsorship Executive Andrew Brown, Jason Hall, Deputy Director at JTB with recording artiste I- Octane at Jamaica House in Rio de Janiero.

Kingston, Jamaica: The Jamaica Tourist Board has found its own way of cheering on the Olympic athletes in Rio de Janeiro while showcasing the very best of all things Jamaican.

As of August 10, the culture of Jamaica — through culinary offerings, exhibitions, arts and crafts, entertainment and vibe of the Jamaican people— has been on daily display at ‘Jamaica House’, based at the Prado Jockey Club in Gavea, Brazil.

With resident disc jockey Richard ‘DJ Narity’ Innerarity, the celebrations at Jamaica House have been described by BuzzFeed reporter Tamerra Griffin as “dutty wine-meets-samba with many sides of Red Stripe beer”.

I-Octane who performed on August 16 displayed great dynamism with an interactive, energetic performance. The Wine and Jiggle artiste utilized the high energy inside Jamaica House to prompt a Jamaica VS Brazil female dance-off which was well received.

Jamaica’s Ambassador to Brazil Alison Stone Roofe has been among the patrons at Jamaica House to cheer on Jamaica’s athletes. Jamaicans in Rio descend on Jamaica House each evening to celebrate together.

Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness and the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport,  Hon Olivia Grange who aided in the initial ribbon cutting of the event, have equally expressed pride and joy in the set up and activities at Jamaica House.

The venue mirrors a Jamaican entertainment village with black, red and green outdoor partitions, a grand Bob Marley painting, a Usain Bolt statue, all complimented by palms and wooden seats around the venue. The venue is completed by a wide screen on which the races are shown daily as well as a stage, all of which are a sleek replica of any Jamaican festival. The miniature track, astutely positioned on the grounds of the venue, has opened itself for numerous photo-opportunities.

Jamaica House begins at 6:30 each evening and will feature Reggae acts Nature for two nights, starting August 17. Also slated to perform are Luciano the Messenjah and Ky-Mani Marley on August 19 and August 20, respectively.

Thanks to Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, Digicel, Red Stripe, and Sandals as sponsors, the Jamaica House initiative has successfully brought the essence of Jamaican “Yaad vibes” to one of the world’s largest gatherings with an authentic stage show set-up.

Sandals Resorts International’s Glenroy Walker and the Jockey Club’s Chef Kleger have been receiving splendid ratings from patrons on their extensive menu. This is particularly the case for the Jerked Chicken and Escoveitch Fish which have become a hit at Jamaica House.

Jason Hall, Deputy Director of Tourism, Cruise, Attractions and Events at the Jamaica Tourist Board, explained that the concept of Jamaica House is to spread the culture of the island nation to Brazil and to representatives of the 100's of countries visiting Rio for the Games.

Stephen Marley debuts atop Billboard chart

Kingston, Jamaica: Rave reviews by fans and critics have kept Stephen Marley’s fourth studio album Revelation Pt. II: The Fruit of Life atop the Billboard Reggae Chart for the second week.

Released on July 22, after a successful 44-city coast-to-coast promotional summer tour, the 24 track album sold just over 4,581 copies, receiving all of 24 per cent hard copy CD sales to debut in the number one spot.

Daniel Patrin of the UK-based renownedforsound.com reviewed the album saying it was: “A grand amalgamation of reggae and its impact on all forms of modern music”.

He went on to state: Revelation Pt. II:The Fruit Of Life is a proper-documented visit through contemporary relevant music… It’s not a traditional reggae album of sorts, but succeeds in the feat of plugging into the unhinged contemporary potency of today, whilst carrying the flame of the Marley message”.

Not a traditional roots reggae album, The Fruit of Life, expands and intertwines genres, boasting the extensive impact of Jamaican music on worldwide genres, especially hip hop. It features appearances from Iggy Azalea, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled, Wyclef Jean, Pitbull, Rakim, Rick Ross, Shaggy, Nina Simone, and Waka Flocka Flame.

The Independent writer Andy Gill said the album “develops a steely ragga rasp in the last few tracks, when the hometown likes of Bounty Killer [and Cobra Ghetto Boy], Capleton and Sizzla [Rock Stone] make their presence felt.”

Other well-received collaborations include Scars On My Feet featuring Waka Flocka; the video was directed by international award-winning writer/director Shaun Escayg, premiered on Emancipation Day, August 1. This to coincide with the statement of empowerment, featuring clips of the late Nelson Mandela, civil unrest, and Reggae Icon Bob Marley.

Revelation Pt. II: The Fruit of Life constitutes Stephen Marley’s fourth time at the Billboard #1 position following 2007’s Mind Control; 2008’s Mind Control Acoustic; and with his most recent Grammy Award Best Reggae album Revelation Part 1: The Root of Life in 2012.
