Stephen ‘Ragga Muffin’ Marley is currently lighting up the United States with his latest musical tour. The 8-time-Grammy-winning artiste is touring with his son, Joseph ‘Jo Mersa’ Marley who is featured on his upcoming album and fellow Ghetto Youths International sing-jay, Wayne Marshall, as they perform across more than 30 US Cities between April and May.
The tour started on April, 12 in St. Petersburg, Fort Lauderdale and will end at New Orleans’ House of Blues on Saturday, May 24.
Stephen Marley’s latest tour is in preparation for the release of his summer album Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life, released on his label, Ghetto Youths International, which is co-owned with his brothers Damian and Julian. His forthcoming album is the second instalment in a two part series, with Revelation Part I: The Root of Life winning the 2012 Grammy-award for Best Reggae Album.
Jo Mersa is also setting the tour ablaze and is anticipating a release with his debut EP Comfortable set for release this spring. Mersa is also featured on his father’s upcoming album Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life. As the eldest son of Stephen Marley, Mersa is no newcomer to music and performing as he made his first appearance on stage with his father at the tender age of four. Comfortable will mark Jo Mersa’s coming of age somewhat, as he seeks to introduce himself to worldwide audiences with his own musical sound.
Fresh off his latest album Tru Colours, which debuted at #4 on the U.S. Billboard’s Reggae Album chart, Wayne Marshall is also ripping the stage as part of Stephen Marley’s most recent tour. Marshall released his first full length album in over a decade on the Marleys’ Ghetto Youths International Label which has been getting raved reviews and is using the tour as another platform to bring the refreshing sounds of the album to new audiences across the US Citites.
Stephen Marley’s Revelation Part I: The Root of Life was a celebration and preservation of roots reggae, filled with powerful messages, enriching spirit and live instrumentation. While, Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life, will utilize a diversified sonic palette to express the far-reaching impact that Jamaican music has had on various genres, especially hip hop.
The new album features a variety of collaborations with Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Black Thought, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Capleton, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Ky-mani Marley, Jo Mersa and more.
Following the current tour, Stephen will get back on the road in the U.S. with Slightly Stoopid throughout the summer to promote the new album. The summer tour will begin with performances at 4th Fridays in The Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, June 27 and on Sunday, June 29 at the Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Michigan.
