Top Headlines for 2013

  •    Jr. Gong and Sizzla at Grand Gala

Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley delivered a stellar performance at the 51st Independence Grand Gala celebrations on August 6, at the National.  His performance which featured Sizzla Kalonji had the crowd on its feet singing along to the performance.

  • Year of Awards for Sean Paul

Sean Paul copped several awards for 2013. His Last album Tomahawk Techniques received a Grammy Nomination Sean Paul also received a MOBO Award, a European Urban Music Award, Youth View Award and a Star Award.

  • Grammy Tribute to Bob Marley

Ziggy and Damian Marley’s rendition of Could You Be Loved to pay tribute to Bob Marley at the Grammys, Award Ceremony was truly iconic. The Marley brothers who were joined by Sting, Bruno Mars and Rihanna delivered a memorable performance and captured a large audience.

  • Tifa’s Star Studded Launch

Tifa’s Got It Like That video premiere held at Fiction was a star studded affair that saw huge support from the entertainment fraternity. The launch was later transformed into a high energy fist pumping club scene with Brand New Machine hosting the after-party.

  • Romain Virgo’s Prime Minister Award

Romain Virgo was among the list of recipients that were awarded the Prime Minister’s Youth Award.  He was acknowledged for his outstanding contribution to the field of arts and culture, Olympian Warren Weir also received this award for his contribution to sports.

  • Sumfest on a Different Level

This year’s staging of Reggae Sumfest saw international acts Miguel and Flo Rida taking delivering outstanding performances. Damian Jr. Gong, Romain Virgo, Aidonia and I-Octane also lead the charge for local stars who had the crowd eating out of their hands  with each song.

  •     Tessanne giving us a Voice

Songbird Tessanne Chin has warmed the hearts of Jamaicans all over the globe with her participation on the American talent show The Voice. Delivering breathtaking performances she continues to move up in the competition and is a sure winner.

  • A Tour of its Own Nature-Fifa World Cup Trophy Tour

Three days of fun, laughter and football marked the presence of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour which stopped in Jamaica. The tour, displayed the 4927g pure gold trophy which gleamed radiantly during its private and public viewing. 

  •    Bumaye Goes Platinum

The vivacious rhythm and catchy lyrics of Busy Signal’s Bumaye that had the nation on their feet has been certified platinum. The track which was produced by Major Lazer was certified in Denmark by the International Federation of the Photographic Industry (IFPI).
  • Remembering Arthur, Celebrating Arthur

The Arthur Guinness Day celebration held in September was one to remember.  Busy Signal delivered an exceptional set while artistes such as Aidonia, Tarrus Riley, Fay-Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin had the crowd jumping and raving in excitement all night.
  •  A Legendary Jazz and Blues 2013

John Legend’s unplugged performance goes down in history as one of the best of all time. Not to mention sharing the moment with Gramps Morgan and Tarrus Riley, his set was indeed one to savour. The night saw other exceptional performances from American entertainers Monica, Dionne Warwick, KC and the Sunshine Band as well as our very own Romain Virgo and Chronixx.
