The legacy that he created as part of the seminal reggae group Morgan Heritage seems to be rewarding Roy ‘Gramps’ Morgan with the success of his debut solo album, 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol. 1. The impressive debut, released August 4 in the United States, is enough to make a less accomplished artiste giddy. But Gramps is taking it all in stride.
"I'm so happy that people are getting a chance to share some good music. That's really what's most important to me as I know this album will have an effect on most people that listen to it," Gramps said.
The release of 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol. 1 is a fitting follow-up to Gramps' memorable, solo-debut performance in Toronto, Canada during the Caribana weekend, recently.
It was one of what is hoped will be many other incredible performances from the accomplished artiste. Gramps will join fellow reggae-legend-in-the-making, Buju Banton on his ‘Rasta Got Soul’ US Tour, which begins September 12 at Philadelphia’s Trocardero and hits cities and states including: Portland, Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, Chicago, California, Texas, New Mexico, Florida as well as North and South Carolina. The 6 week tour is an opportunity for the singer to continue on his quest to ‘heal the world through music’.
"I am so happy to reach this point, to be able to represent the album I worked on for so many months,” says Gramps. “It's a great challenge and I also feel blessed to be on the road with Buju. He's a great performer - it comes right from the heart and I can relate to that as there is no other way for either of us to do music."
It is an indication of the mutual respect of two very soulful artistes. Gramps and Buju have collaborated in the past on their smash hit single The 23rd Psalm and on the follow up Power of Prayer featured on Gramps’ 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol. 1.
In support of the album, Gramps also heads to Europe for a promotional tour. He will inspire the masses in cities such as Amsterdam, Paris and London and will make appearances at New York’s Irie Jamboree, and at a special autograph signing session at VP Records’ retail store on Jamaica Avenue, Queens, New York, all before the tour September 12. This is all while he’s planning for the launch 2 Sides of My Heart, Vol. 1 in London and rounding up the tour he’s currently on with India.Arie and John Legend.
Fans across the United States can look forward to hearing tracks from 2 Sides of My Heart Vol. 1 including the #1 hit single Wash The Tears, and what undoubtedly will be a slew of new hits including Come Back To Bed, All Together, For One Night, and Time.
