The Mission Complete

The long awaited video for the Damian and Stephen Marley track The Mission has finally been released. The track which takes its names from The Mission riddim produced by Baby G, has the Marley duo as one of headliners for that riddim and has been enjoying great radio rotation as well as being played over and over again in the party arena by various selectors. The track has also been featured on VP Record's Reggae Gold 2008; it is no wonder the video was highly anticipated.
Shot on location in New York by Ras Kassa The Guruu, the video keenly depicts the idea of ghettoo and allows the high definition graphics to vividly display the lyrics of the song, showing the struggles of those who dwell in the inner city and other volatile parts of the world. By using captions of the different areas and garrisons in Jamaica, the video allows those who aren't really familiar with the areas to get an understanding of what the Marley duo is making reference to.
The inspirational feature of the song is accentuated by the video, especially with the captions. It is a motivational track that speaks to those in the struggle and the Marley's make it clear that they are committed to the mission of re-education and re-socialisation of our nation through their music. The video highlights images of other individuals who were committed to the educating of the youths; people like the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley and Marcus Garvey whose birthday was celebrated on Sunday, August 17. There was also a special appearance from brother Julian Marley who joined Damian and Stephen in their mission to inspire.
Just like the track, the video too has been experiencing great rotation since its release on both Hype and RETV. back to top
