.... and a child shall lead.....Choc'late Allen for Regional Educulture School Tour

The month of May is celebrated as a period during which issues affecting children are explored and solutions openly discussed. 14 year old Trinidadian youth advocate Choc’late Allen has added her voice to the discussions about our children and is slated to participate in the Regional Educulture School Tour. The tour which will run from May 5-29 will see Choc’late visiting 42 schools in all 14 parishes of Jamaica, and is an inventive amalgamation of education and the arts.

Educulture caters to primary and secondary students, and over the duration of the tour, seeks to help young people to understand and evaluate their life, and alter behaviours that put them at risk. The organizers are also seeking to create a more caring environment, promote positive interpersonal skills, and further promote and help to develop conflict resolution skills.

Educulture is endorsed by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth, and Sports, the Trinidadian High Commission, UNEP, UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNAIDS, These entities hope to achieve increased awareness among youth on the effects of risky behaviours. The ultimate goal however is to encourage young people to develop a sense of responsibility for their own actions. Also, it is hoped that the tour participants become positive role models to their peers, and that they themselves will promote the ideas behind conflict resolution.

Choc’late, who first came to prominence in 2007 with a 4 day fast in her home country for peace and purity, has dedicated her life to encouraging Caribbean youth to take personal responsibility for their actions, and engage them in positive and meaningful activities. The home schooled CARICOM personality has been involved in regional integration and advocacy since age nine, and is also a recording artiste.
